Patient FAQs
What is the heart monitor patch?
SmartPatch is a small, lightweight, and adhesive device worn on the chest. It continuously records a patient’s heart rhythm and activity, allowing for extended monitoring in their normal daily environment.
What conditions can the patch monitor and detect?
The patch is used to identify irregular heart rhythms, such as atrial fibrillation, bradycardia, tachycardia, and other arrhythmias. It is also helpful in assessing palpitations, dizziness, and unexplained fainting episodes.
How long do I wear the patch?
SmartPatch is designed to wear between 5-7 days to get an accurate reading of your heart’s activity.
What if I have skin problems? Can I still wear the patch?
Patients with severe skin allergies, wounds, or irritation in the chest area may not be ideal candidates for a patch. Always evaluate skin compatibility before application and talk to your doctor if necessary.
What happens if I experience a cardiac event while I'm wearing the patch?
In the case of a cardiac event, alerts may be sent directly to the medical team. You should follow emergency protocols and contact your provider immediately.
Does insurance cover SmartPatch?
Most insurance plans, including Medicare, cover outpatient heart monitoring for medically necessary indications. Always verify with the patient’s insurer beforehand. If this isn’t the case for you, no worries! We have designed SmartPatch to be affordable and are happy to work with you and your doctor.
